Mauritius got its name from the Dutch, Mauritz Van Nassau (who visited Mauritius). It is an island of Volcanic origin which is on the east of Madagascar and North East of Reunion Island.

Independence of Mauritius
Independence was acquired from the British Colony on the 12th of March 1968 as negotiated by the Honorable Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, after whom several places are named.
Education and Health services are free in Mauritius except for private institutions like private universities and clinics.
The Dodo is often used to uniquely identify Mauritius. Unfortunately the animal is extinct and was used as food by people who visited the island during the early years.
Among the economic pillars are Sugar Industry, Textile, Tourism and ICT. The Capital City is Port-Louis and the harbor is found there.
Seasons In Mauritius
There are only two seasons throughout the year, summer(November to April) and winter (May to October ). The temperature in summer varies from 27-36 Degrees Celcius while in winter it ranges from 16-25 Degrees Celcius. The coldest region is the central plateau. The eco system is balanced by cyclones every year and the island has a very good reputation for its lagoons and beaches.
Several five star resorts are available throughout the Island for holidays and peak season for tourists is in Summer. The national currency is MUR – The Mauritian Rupee and the national airline is Air Mauritius, which flies to many countries worldwide.
